Systems, Scaling & Your 90-Day Plan
SOPs and measurement, raising prices, scaling sensibly, protecting energy and finances, and a capstone 90-day plan.
Write down what works so you can repeat it, track a few weekly numbers and raise your prices as you improve. Protect your health and savings. Follow the 90-day plan like an experiment, and if one step fails, change that step and try again.
- SOP
- A written step-by-step way of doing a task.
- Effective hourly rate
- What you earn per hour after counting all the time you spend.
- Leverage
- Earning more without working proportionally more hours.
Raise your prices as you improve, and protect your health and savings.
Side income becomes a business, or a lasting source of extra money, through systems, measuring and steady improvement. Bursts of motivation do not do it. This final lesson covers the habits and tools that keep you improving. It shows how to raise prices and grow sensibly, how to protect your energy, and a concrete 90-day plan to put the whole path into action.
Systems: write down what works
- Standard operating procedures for each service: the checklist you follow for kickoff, delivery, checking and hand-over.
- Templates for proposals, contracts, onboarding forms, status updates and invoices.
- A library of prompts and workflows you have tested, with versions and results. It is like the playbook in the AI Agent User path.
- A file of case studies, testimonials and proof, ready to drop into proposals.
- A client folder structure and naming rules, so that nothing is lost.
Measure what matters
PIPELINE contacts made | replies | calls booked | proposals sent | wins | win rate REVENUE invoiced | paid | outstanding | recurring (MRR) | average project value EFFORT billable hours | admin hours | total hours -> effective hourly rate = revenue / total hours QUALITY client satisfaction | revision rounds per project | on-time delivery | referrals received Review weekly (15 min) and monthly (1 hour): what's working, what isn't, what to change one thing about.
Raise prices and refine the offer
- Raise prices when demand is higher than your capacity, when you have strong proof, or when your effective hourly rate falls below your target.
- Raise them for new clients first. Give existing clients notice and a reason before you change their rates.
- Drop the services that cost the most effort for the least money, and the clients who drain you.
- Double down on what clients ask for again and again, and recommend to others.
Grow sensibly
- Leverage: templates, systems, recurring plans and products let you serve more people without a matching rise in hours.
- Collaborate: partner with other freelancers for work outside your skills, with clear agreements and quality standards.
- Subcontract with care: only once your process is documented. You remain accountable to the client.
- Go deeper, not wider. Authority in a niche beats being average at many things.
Protect your energy and your finances
- Set working hours and stick to them. Side income should not use up your health, your relationships or your main job.
- Check that your employment contract allows outside work. Make sure it does not claim your freelance output or clash with your employer's business.
- Build a financial buffer, because income varies. Keep business and personal money apart, and set aside tax.
- Watch for burnout and isolation. Find a community of peers to share problems and leads.
- Keep learning. This field changes fast. Schedule time each week to test new tools and update your playbook.

- Create the weekly dashboard in a spreadsheet and fill in a baseline.
- List your top three risks, such as time, skills, demand and finances, and a way to reduce each one.
- Share the plan with someone who will ask you about it in 30 days.
Q1What does a falling effective hourly rate tell you?show answer
You are spending more total hours than your pricing covers, including admin, revisions and calls. Raise prices, tighten the scope or improve your efficiency.
Q2When should you subcontract work?show answer
Once your process is documented and the quality standards are clear. Remember that you remain accountable to the client.
Q3What should you do if one stage of your pipeline keeps failing?show answer
Find the cause and change that stage, whether it is the message, the offer or the price. Then test again. Do not abandon the whole plan.
